The film will hit theaters on October 15, 2021.

In the past three years, Walt Disney Pictures increased its stock price by a whopping 40 percent. The studio released two of the highest-grossing movies of 2019 with Avengers: Endgame and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The Disney+ streaming launch earned the studio millions of subscribers. Additionally, Disney bolstered its library by officially acquiring Fox's film and TV assets.

From the looks of Disney's recent moves, those lofty prices won't be dropping any time soon.

On Monday afternoon, Disney announced it has acquired the rights to Lin-Manuel Miranda's award-winning stage play Hamilton. The studio announced it would produce a Hamilton movie featuring the entire original cast. The movie will hit theaters on October 15, 2021.

According to Polygon, the film will feature a new "live capture" camera technology, designed to create an immersive Broadway theater experience.

Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke about the acquisition in a statement.

"Lin-Manuel Miranda created an unforgettable theater experience and a true cultural phenomenon," Iger said. "It was for good reason that Hamilton was hailed as an astonishing work of art. All who saw it with the original cast will never forget that singular experience."

In addition to Miranda, the original musical will star Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, and Renee Ellis Goldsberry. Thomas Kail will return to direct the play's film adaptation.

Hamilton won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album in 2016. Additionally, the musical won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 11 total Tony Awards.
