Diddy, Jay-Z, and Nas Reveal Their Choice For New York City's Next Mayor

Diddy, Jay-Z, Nas, and other New York music moguls appear in a video endorsing Ray McGuire on Wednesday.

There's still ten weeks left in the race for mayor of New York City, but candidates have been on the trail for months now. On Wednesday, Ray McGuire got a large endorsement in the form of a video featuring New York music moguls Diddy, Jay-Z, and Nas. Watch the endorsement video below.

"When New York was at its liveliest and most vibrant, it was because it was a destination for people to come there to create," Jay-Z says in the opening seconds. "Somewhere along the line the ball got dropped," Nas interjects, "and it's all about a racial divide--well we're the most diverse city in the world."

A former vice chairman for the banking giant Citigroup, McGuire has promised to partner with the private sector to facilitate job growth. He has shied away from calls to defund the NYPD, but has promised reform and earned an endorsement from Gwen Carr, mother of the late Eric Garner. Steve Stoute and Angie Martinez also appear in the ad, sharing their excitement about McGuire.

The 64-year old is a native of Dayton, Ohio and attended Harvard College, Harvard Business School, and Harvard Law School. Prior to announcing his candidacy, he was one of the longest-serving Black executives on Wall Street. McGuire was also under consideration for president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

"For me, this is a life of service," McGuire added. "When my people came up in the church, it was a life of service. I've been really fortunate. I've been blessed to get here. But getting here means I've never forgotten about where I came from."

The Democratic primary takes place on June 22nd. Stay tuned for further updates on the New York City mayoral race.
