The English actress, Lashana Lynch, is finalizing her contract to replace DeWanda Wise in Marvel’s upcoming space-action flick, Captain Marvel.

After scheduling issues with actress DeWanda Wise and the second season of Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It — English actress Lashana Lynch is in final negotiations to replace Wise in Captain Marvel.

Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe would still be a boon as there aren’t a lot of black women heroes outside of those in Black Panther. Filmmaking duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing Marvel Studios’ first female-fronted standalone, which stars Oscar-winner Brie Larson in the title role.

Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn will also star in Captain Marvel, which is set in the 1990s and features Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Nick Fury (with two eyes!). Speculation about who Lynch will play is still on the fence. Smart money is on Spectrum, also known as Monica Rambeau, a being able to transform herself into any form of energy in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Captain Marvel, which is slated for release on March 8, 2019, marks the biggest role to date for Lynch, Shondaland alum, who starred in the short-lived ABC period drama Still Star-Crossed. Lynch, a Laurence Olivier Bursary Award winner, has also appeared in indie features Fast Girls and Brotherhood.
