Dave Chappelle is about to make his foray into the world of podcasting. The comedian has announced that he, Yasiin Bey, and Talib Kweli will be hosting a podcast together called The Midnight Miracle. The series will provide “a glimpse into a very interesting season in the lives of the three hosts and their friends, and features guests from among the country’s most influential cultural icons,” according to a press release.
The press release goes on to say that the series will be done “In the variety show tradition,” where “conversations are punctuated with sketches, impersonations, archival audio clips, and a powerful soundtrack that includes music from Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, D’Angelo, Heatwave featuring Johnny Wilder, and much more to come.”
The series was recorded last year during Chappelle’s Summer Camp, with the three hosts going through more than 100 hours of recorded content to create the show’s first season. The show will be released in the coming weeks on Luminary (a subscription podcast network), with the series continuing throughout the year. Only one season has been planned.
“Making a podcast isn’t the obvious next move for me, but it’s the right one,” Chappelle said in the press release. “The Midnight Miracle gives you a look into how me and my friends process the world around us, and I think it will change the way listeners think of what a podcast can be.”
In related news, Chappelle recently appeared on Naomi Campbell’s No Filter with Naomi series. The pair not only spoke of their mutual admiration and respect of each other, but also about Chappelle’s career as a comedian, his Juke Joint events, and what ushered him to start using his Instagram account.
