David Letterman‘s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction is returning next month with a new roster of guests, one of which is comedian Dave Chappelle.
In a report from Deadline, the third season of the series will include guest appearances from Chappelle, Kim Kardashian West, Robert Downey Jr., and Lizzo. The show is scheduled to return on October 21; it was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction featured Kanye West, who spoke with Letterman about his support of Donald Trump, as well as his struggles with mental health.
Recently, Chappelle was the recipient of the awards for outstanding writing and directing for a variety special and best-pre-recorded variety special for his latest standup special, Sticks & Stones, at this year’s Emmys. After winning the awards the comedian took to Instagram where he called out critics who spoke unfavorably about the special, saying: “I hope all you critics learn from this. This is a teachable moment. Shut the fuck up, forever.”
Chappelle stepped into this year’s award season with a total of eight nominations; six for Sticks & Stones and two for his Mark Twain Prize special. Sticks & Stones also took home a Grammy earlier this year, earning him his third straight win for Best Comedy Album
In other related news, Chappelle spoke about his relationship with Prince as part of the liner notes for the forthcoming reissue of Prince’s 1987 album Sign O’ the Times.
“When I left Chappelle’s Show, not only was Prince the only person I could relate to,” he said. “He was one of the few people who truly cared about what was happening in my life. He was the only one I knew who had already done it…The mere sight of Prince reminded me that I’m not the last sane man on earth, and I’m not crazy.”
