Dave Chappelle Attacker Isaiah Lee Offered Plea Deal

Isaiah Lee, the man who attacked Dave Chappelle during a comedy set at the Hollywood Bowl in May, has reached a plea deal in his misdemeanor case.

Isaiah Lee, the man who attacked Dave Chappelle onstage at the Hollywood Bowl last month, is now considering a plea deal. In a report from Rolling Stone, Lee appeared in court in Los Angeles on Thursday, where he also agreed to a two-month delay in a separate case for attempted murder, where he allegedly stabbed his former roommate during an argument last December.

The incident between Lee and Chappelle occurred during the latter’s comedy set at Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival. The 23-year-old Lee was later charged with multiple offenses including possession of a weapon with intent to assault, battery, and unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance.

In an interview with The New York Post last month, Lee – who also raps under the name “NoName_Trapper” – admitted that the Hollywood Bowl incident was partially for exposure.

“I’m not going to lie … it was a bit of clout-chasing,” Lee said. “In Hollywood, you know they say there is no such thing as bad publicity. I rap about these things in my music and knew it would get attention.”

Lee also claimed in his New York Post interview that the incident also came about because of jokes Chappelle said, as well as a joke about pedophilia from a comedian that performed before Chappelle. (Lee said he was molested at the age of 17.)

“I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect,” Lee said. “I wanted Dave Chappelle and people to know that these are things you need to be more sensitive about and not joke about.”

Although Chappelle wanted the attack to be charged as a felony, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón declined to press felony charges against Lee, citing that the replica handgun – which retracted as a knife –  he had on him was kept in a folded position.
