Dave Chappelle Torches Critics After Winning Three More Emmys

"This is a teachable moment. Shut the fuck up, forever."

Dave Chappelle ramped up his assault on critics last night with a ferocious acceptance speech for his latest batch of Emmy wins.

In a rare Instagram transmission (see below,) the comedian went for the throat of TV critics who blasted his latest special, Stick & Stones, just hours after it won the awards for outstanding writing and directing for a variety special and best-pre-recorded variety special. Working through the fallout from Sticks & Stones, Chappelle recalled how critics were "embarrassed for me," claiming "I had lost my way" and that the special "wasn't even worth watching." But it didn't take long for him to fire his own shots. Squaring up with the camera, Chappelle tells the audience and those watching from their respective corners of the internet, "I hope all you critics learn from this. This is a teachable moment. Shut the fuck up, forever."

He goes on to thank his wife in a very Chappelle way. "Elaine has been with me for the last 25 years and has had to endure the pains of living with the greatest comedian ever," he notes before adding, "It’s a special night because comedy gets to be itself. “It’s all we’ve ever wanted. I hope the war is over. We good?"

Chappelle stepped into this year's award season with a total of eight nominations; six for Sticks & Stones and two for his Mark Twain Prize special. Sticks & Stones also took home a Grammy earlier this year, earning him his third straight win for Best Comedy Album. And though it seems unlikely that pressure from critics will die down after this latest round of victories, we can damn-near count on their responses fueling his next hour.
