Danny Brown Says Dave Chappelle Interlude on ‘Detroit 2’ Was Inaccurate

During an interview, Danny Brown said Big Sean’s Detroit 2 interlude ‘Story By Dave Chappelle’ wasn’t exactly how the run-in went down.

Big Sean‘s 2020 album Detroit 2 featured select interludes from Erykah Badu to Stevie Wonder. But, according to Danny Brown, Dave Chappelle‘s two minute tale on the album wasn’t quite reliable.

While chatting with HotNewHipHop, the rapper was asked about being “immortalized” in ‘Story By Dave Chappelle’.

“It was funny, but I ain’t like that shitt, man [laughs] because that ain’t the true story [laughs]. I’ll tell my side in my stand-up set.”

In the interlude, Chappelle recounted a stand-up performance in Detroit, a city that he was particularly nervous to perform in because of crowd involvement. While backstage, Brown appeared and the two smoked together, but when Chappelle “bombed” in front of the Detroit audience, he said Brown snuck out the backdoor during the middle of his set, which humored Chappelle. Afterward, Chappelle went backstage where he was given a pep talk by a man who he later discovered was Big Sean’s father.

After speaking on being an opening act for a Freddie Gibbs comedy show in Austin, Brown also teased future stand-up performances:

“I opened up for Hannibal [Buress]. That’s nerve-wracking. The shit is hard. I would say it’s 100x harder than doing rap. I’m just a student of a game, I would say right now. I’m very lucky and honored to be hanging around them motherfuckers and being able to soak up game for the last few years. I’ll hit my stride with it soon.”
