Ahead of their Verzuz battle with Onyx, Cypress Hill is taking their story to Showtime. On April 20, the legendary rap group will debut their new documentary Cypress Hill: Insane in the Brain, and they teased its forthcoming release with an official trailer.
“Somewhere in here, there is Cypress Hill,” B-Real says in the trailer. “I never thought we’d be making history.”
The film will follow the group – comprising of members B-Real, Sen Dog, Eric Bobo, and DJ Muggs – and their rise as being influential in hip-hop for over thirty years. Ice-T will also appear in the documentary. The doc is directed by famed photographer Estevan Oriol.
“Told through the intimate lens of photographer and director Estevan Oriol (LA Originals), Cypress Hill: Insane in The Brain is a smoke-filled journey across the lives and careers of the groundbreaking, genre-defying Hip Hop group, Cypress Hill,” reads the synopsis for the film, via Sony Music. “Their unique sound, influenced by their Latin roots and West Coast upbringing, was built on a movement rooted in true authenticity: from cultivating the flower, to smoking it, to rapping about it, their influence is forever burned into the musical landscape of Hip Hop as they continue to stay relevant after 30 years.”
The group released their latest album, Back in Black in March. “We were proud hip-hoppers back in the day and we’ve gone through it all. We’re proud to be part of the hip-hop industry. Doing a straight hip-hop joint was the way to go,” Sen Dog said about the album, per Tower Records.
On May 14, the group will go head-to-head with Onyx during the Verzuz-sponsored boxing event Lineage of Greatness at The Forum in Los Angeles.
