'Coming 2 America' Coming Straight to Amazon Prime Video

Coming 2 America is expected to hit Amazon Prime on December 18.

According to a Variety report, the long-anticipated Coming 2 America is in the process of being sold. Paramount Pictures is reportedly selling the film to Amazon Studios in a deal worth $125 million. As a result, the movie would hit Amazon Prime on December 18.

Paramount has already sold three projects to streaming services. Trial of the Chicago 7, directed by Aaron Sorkin, and the action comedy Lovebirds were both sold to Netflix. Without Remorse, an adaptation of the 1993 novel written by Tom Clancy, was also sold to Amazon.

Coming 2 America was one of three projects involved in Eddie Murphy's recent return to the silver screen. After appearing on Saturday Night Live this past December, Murphy starred in Dolemite is My Name on Netflix. Murphy was also in talks with Netflix to finally return to the stand-up stage. 40 years after his SNL debut, Murphy won an Emmy for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his return appearance.

"This was a very very special thing for me," Murphy said in his acceptance speech. "To come back and have the show turn out the way it did. I'm still floating from it."

In the forthcoming sequel, Murphy's Prince Akeem is set to become king of Zamunda, when he discovers a son he never knew back in America--a Queens native named Lavelle. Murphy, Arsenio Hall, and James Earl Jones will reprise their roles from the 1988 film, while SNL stalwarts Tracy Morgan and Jay Pharoah will join the cast.

Stay tuned for further updates.
