Studio 8 will be bringing the comic book series to the big screen.

In a report from Deadline, Studio 8 Executive Vice President Jon Silk will oversee the development of the Black film adaptation alongside executive Rishi Rajani.

Black, which was created by Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith 3 and produced by Black Mask Studios, tells the story of Kareem Jenkins, a teenager who is shot in a Brooklyn police shooting. However, Kareem survives the shooting and soon discovers that he possesses superpowers, as well as learns of other black men and women who possess superpowers. But the more Jenkins learns about this network of gifted black people, the more a far-reaching global conspiracy to keep such information hidden from the rest of the world begins to reveal itself.

The series, which just completed its initial six-issue run, references the Black Lives Matter movement, the mass incarceration of black people in America's prisons, and explosive racial tensions. The film adaptation does not currently have a release date or director attached. Casting and production information will be announced at a later date.

Black brings to mind another black comic book series whose film adaptation will be arriving soon, Black Panther. A few weeks back, Entertainment Weekly released a collection of photos from the Black Panther set, including shots of the Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, facing off against Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan); Black Panther's sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) traveling with Nakia and Ramonda (the latter portrayed by Angela Bassett); and a picture of the main cast.
