The first eight-episode season will is inspired by the book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement.

Will Smith and Jay-Z's anthology series about the women of the civil rights movement has landed at ABC.

According to Deadline, the tentatively-titled Women of the Movement is being developed by ABC, and includes a production team featuring Smith, Jay, and Aaron Kaplan. Marissa Jo Cerar (The Handmaid's Tale) will serve as the show's writer.

The series is being described as "an anthology series that chronicles the civil rights movement as told by the women behind it."

The first eight-episode season is inspired by the book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement by Devery S. Anderson. It will center on Emmett Till’s mother, Mamie Till.

In related news, the Emmett Till marker that appeared in a photo of gun-toting students from the University of Mississippi will be made bulletproof.

In a statement from the Emmett Till Memorial Commission, the marker will be the fourth one installed at Graball Landing, the site on the Tallahatchie River where Till’s body was pulled from the water. The marker will also be gated, as well as have security cameras.

“We believe it is important to keep a sign at this historic site, but we don’t want to hide the legacy of racism by constantly replacing broken signs,” the statement reads. “The commission hopes this sign will endure, and that it will continue to spark conversations about Till, history, and racial justice.”

The Commission is also trying to create a Mamie and Emmett Till National Park.

The news comes after a photo surfaced of three students from the University of Mississippi posing with the bullet-ridden marker. Two of the three students are seen holding guns in the picture.
