Check Out the Mysterious Trailer for Christopher Nolan's "Tenet," Starring John David Washington

The film is Nolan's first since 2017's Oscar-winning Dunkirk.

Christopher Nolan's newest film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2020. Tenet, an action-drama project, stars BlacKkKlansman's John David Washington and the Twilight Saga's Robert Pattinson.

If the preview seems confusing, it's by Nolan's design. Even Pattinson didn't have a personal copy of the script. In an April interview with USA Today, Pattinson said he was "sworn to secrecy" regarding Tenet plot details. "I got locked in a room to read the script — I don't have it myself." Despite that, Pattinson assured readers that the script was "unreal."

The film seems to put a conceptual spin on the average spy movie. The ominous trailer features multiple vehicles moving in reverse. Washington's character receives the task of "trying to prevent World War III." Towards the end of the trailer, a character tells the listener (presumably Washington's character) "don't try to understand it...feel it."

Nolan's most recently released Dunkirk, about the evacuation of Allied soldiers during World War II. The movie won three Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing. With its release, Nolan earned his first Oscar nomination for directing. Before that, Nolan directed Interstellar in 2014 and The Dark Knight Rises — the final movie in the Dark Knight series — in 2012.

Washington received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for his role in BlacKkKlansman. Pattinson was officially cast as DC Films' newest Batman this past May. Additionally, he will star alongside Andre 3000 in Claire Denis' film High Life.
