Chris Rock Isn’t Pressing Charges After Will Smith Oscar Smack

Despite Will Smith’s show-stopping smack during the Oscars 2022, Chris Rock isn’t pressing charges, says the Los Angeles Police Department.

Chris Rock is taking last night’s Oscars altercation between him and Will Smith in good stride. Although Smith unexpectedly smacked Rock during Sunday night’s ceremony, the comedian isn’t pressing charges. On Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the news.

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program,” the LAPD told CNN in a statement. “The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”

The Academy also released a statement via Twitter. “The Academy does not condone violence of any form,” the statement read. “Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world.”

During the ceremony, it appeared as though there was bad blood between Rock and Jada Pinkett-Smith. In 2016, the comedian made a joke about Pinkett-Smith not being invited to the Oscars although she was boycotting the awards ceremony because of ‘Oscars So White.’

“Jada I love you, ‘G.I. Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it,” Rock quipped. The camera then panned to Pinkett-Smith, who rolled her eyes at Rock’s joke. On her series Red Table Talk, the actress has been open about her struggles with alopecia, which she was diagnosed with in 2018.

Following the joke, Smith walked onstage, hitting Rock before returning to his seat and telling the comedian to “leave my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.”

After winning his first Oscar for Best Actor, Smith hit the Vanity Fair afterparty, celebrating to his throwback hits like the incident never happened.
