Game, Blake.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin recently became an NBA meme when he dunked on Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert during a game Tuesday night. Upon completing the dunk Griffin briefly hung on the rim while maintaining a straight face before continuing the game.

However, fans watching the game immediately drew comparisons to Dave Chappelle‘s iconic portrayal of Prince on Chappelle’s Show, in which the comedian hung from the rim while staring straight into the camera before letting go of the rim completely and descending slowly.

It is unknown if Griffin was paying homage to the now 13-year-old sketch (when asked about it following the end of the game he did not directly respond) but it sure made NBA Twitter’s night. Last month Chappelle completed a residency at the Warner Theatre in his hometown of Washington, D.C. While there the comedian returned to his alma mater, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where he received the key to the city from Mayor Muriel Bowser.

“Some very special native Washingtonians have dedicated their lives to making Washington, D.C. better, and they’ve gone above and beyond to show others what makes the nation’s capital the best city in the world,” Bowser said. “Dave Chappelle reminds us what it means to live a life filled with purpose, meaning, and laughter.”

Accepting the key Chappelle took the stage in the school’s auditorium and proceeded to talk to the students.

“$170 million is a lot to spend on your future…Success is your choice,” Chappelle said. “Your high school friends will be friends for life…I wanted to b a comedian. So, I knew I needed to learn acting. I used to mop the stage.”
