Diddy, Timbaland, and More Urge Joe Biden to Pick Black Woman as Vice President

Over 100 Black athletes, lawyers, and celebrities signed the letter to Joe Biden.

Last week, a group of nearly 700 Black women sent a letter to media outlets preparing for racist and sexist attacks against the field of vice-presidential candidates. On Monday, Associated Press race and ethnicity writer Kat Stafford reported that a group of influential Black men have sent a similar letter to Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Read the full letter below.

"The urgency for that pick has gone from something that SHOULD happen to something that HAS to happen," the letter reads. "It disgusts us that Black women are not just being vetted in this VP process but unfairly criticized and scrutinized."

Notable names like former NFL player Michael Bennett, Diddy, Timbaland, Charlamagne the God, Eddie Glaude, and civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump signed the letter.

"Failing to select a Black woman in 2020 means YOU WILL lose the election," the letter continues. "We don't want to choose between the lesser of two evils, we don't want to vote the devil we know vs. the devil we don't because we are tired of voting for devils period. Vice President Biden, don't take that risk. Black women are defining the future of politics, so it's time you let one define the future of your campaign."

Last week's letter featured signatures from Tina Tchen, president and CEO of Times Up and multiple members of Planned Parenthood. In recent months, many have called for Joe Biden to select either California senator Kamala Harris or Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.
