Dwayne Johnson Reveals 'Black Adam 2' Won't Be Coming Anytime Soon

On Tuesday, Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson announced on Twitter that the film will not receive a sequel during the company's "first chapter."

The rumors about latest DC Studios film Black Adam have been confirmed. On Tuesday (December 20), Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, star of the anti-hero film that released in October, released a statement on social media about the movie not proceeding as part of DC's "first chapter."

“James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adamwill not be in their first chapter of storytelling,” Johnson wrote. “However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.”

"After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I'm very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide," Johnson added. "I will always look back on the fan reaction... with tremendous gratitude, humility and love."

Upon its October 21 release, Adam disappointed with $391 at the box office globally and lukewarm reviews, despite Johnson spending 15 years to launch the franchise with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. Johnson also pushed back against a Variety report that the film was set to lose $50 million to $100 million.

Johnson's announcement also follows news that DC Studios has transitioned from Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill starring as Wonder Woman and Superman, respectively, instead focusing on the superheroes' origins in future films.

Gunn, co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Hagan, later tweeted a response to Johnson's post on Tuesday.
