"He's Getting Better": Big Daddy Kane Offers an Update on Biz Markie's Health

Big Daddy Kane joined The Breakfast Club and gave an update on Biz Markie.

This past July, hip-hop legend Biz Markie was hospitalized after reportedly suffering a stroke in the process of recovering from a diabetic episode. For the past few months, there have been little to no updates on his status. On Thursday, however, Big Daddy Kane joined The Breakfast Club, where he relayed some information on Biz's recovery. Watch the full interview below.

"He's getting better," Kane said a couple of minutes into the conversation. "He's in rehabilitation now. He’s getting better and stronger every day. Last time I talked to him on the phone, he got a real light voice, but last time I talked on the phone he stuck his middle finger up at me so I think he’s coming along.”

According to TMZ, Biz had been hospitalized in a Maryland hospital for weeks at the time of its report. Fans speculated about his condition, given his absence from social media as well as his Sirius XM radio show for over six months. Rumors subsequently surfaced that Biz had fallen into a coma, but they were quickly refuted. A representative told TMZ that Biz is "receiving the best care from an amazing team of medical professionals and we remain positive about the outcome.”

Biz Markie was originally diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2011. Three years later, he revealed he'd lost 140 pounds in an effort to improve his condition. "I wanted to live," he said in an interview with ABC News, "Since I have to be a diabetic, if I didn’t make the changes, it was going to make the diabetes worse. I’m trying to get off [medication]. The way you gotta do it is lose the weight. I’m off half my meds, I just got to get off the rest. They said I could lose my feet. They said I could lose body parts. A lot of things could happen."
