The OutKast rapper, Big Boi, will star alongside Trevor Jackson, Jason Mitchell and Samuel L. Jackson in Director X’s Superfly remake.

The multiple-time Grammy Award winning, Diamond-selling artist, Big Boi, is donning his actor’s hat once again to star in Sony’s Superfly remake. Helmed by Director X, Superfly will also star Trevor Jackson (grown-ish) and Jason Mitchell (Mudbound), who play Youngblood Priest and his business partner, Eddie, respectively.

Sony nor Director X have given any indication as to who Big Boi will play in the blaxploitation remake, but given the ATLien’s penchant for being a tough guy, he may not stray too far from roles that he’s played in the past. For those unfamiliar with Superfly, Youngblood Priest is at the center of all the action in Superfly, as a cocaine dealer who tries to secure one last deal before getting out of the game.

As we reported last month, Grammy nominated rapper Future will curate the Superfly soundtrack. He will also be listed as a producer, alongside Joel Silver, with Steven R. Shore, Matthew Hirsch, Hal Sadoff and Aaron Ausch as executive producers.

Superfly, which is currently filming in Atlanta, is slated for a June 15, 2018 release date.
