The Bernie Sanders Meme Has Made its Way to Hip-Hop And It's Delightful

Bernie Sanders and his inauguration fit made waves on social media.

Joe Biden's Inauguration had its own share of stars like Amanda Gorman, Nikolas Ajagu's Dior Jordan 1s, and the stylists behind Michelle Obama's look. Social media has been abuzz with memes since the beginning of the ceremony and on Thursday, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and his inauguration fit became the latest meme.

Modestly dressed in the same beige coat from the "I Am Once Again Asking" meme, a standard surgical mask, and a pair of mittens gifted two years ago by a Vermont schoolteacher, Bernie's look and pose has since become viral, so much so that he's even had to address it, recently telling Seth Meyers: "I was just sitting there, trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what's going on." Sanders has also launched an official sweater sale bearing his meme-ness, with 100% of the proceeds going to Meals on Wheels Vermont.

The image has since popped up everywhere, with Sanders' posted up, legs crossed pose having made its way to the rap game.

Bernie's long been a friend to Killer Mike, and has already soundtracked campaign rallies to the sounds of Young Thug, Quavo, and Travis Scott. It's only right he'd stop by 2 Chainz' Trap Music Museum.

Anderson .Paak's Malibu cover

A March 2020 virtual rally for Sanders' campaign featured names like Neil Young and Anderson .Paak's backing band, the Free Nationals. Just a few days afterward, Bernie took California's Democratic presidential primary by eight points, taking over 50 more counties than Joe Biden.

When informed that his outfit had gone viral, Sanders simply stated that he was trying to keep warm. "In Vermont, we know about cold," he said. "We're not so concerned about good fashion. We want to keep warm."

J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive cover

Back in 2018, J. Cole admitted he didn't vote in the 2016 election because Bernie wasn't on the ballot. "If it was Bernie Sanders, I would've showed up and voted," he told Billboard. "I would've been the first one in line, no bulls---."

This one just seems borderline inappropriate.

Honestly, with a little more time in Photoshop, this one could look like a pretty believable campaign photo op.
