Unfortunately, the Obama sketch never came to fruition.

Following former White House press secretary Sean Spicer's surprise appearance at this year's Emmys, now comes the reveal that former President Barack Obama had a sketch for the 2013 Emmys. The sketch was centered around Obama's ObamaCare and encouraging people to signup for the program just as it was going into effect.

As Politico reports:

script was written. Segments with Tony Goldwyn, who plays President Fitzgerald Grant on Scandal, and Jay Pharaoh, who was then playing Obama on Saturday Night Live, were recorded. Some of those involved say Obama may have even shot his part himself.

“Excuse me, Fitz? And, uh, ‘Mr. President?’” Obama was to say, interrupting a conversation between the TV presidents. “You’re the real president. I mean, you’re not fooling anyone. These are smart people. Hollywood people. At an award show. They can tell when someone is insincere.”

“I am the actual president,” he said, pivoting into his Obamacare pitch.

Former White House officials are mixed about the reasons the sketch was ultimately canned. One official recalled the most senior member of the academy making it "abundantly clear that he was killing the sketch for the reasons of 'not being political,'" while another could not remember if an exact reason was given for the sketch's cancellation. The academy does have rules against engaging partisan politics, but some critics say they feel those were violated because of Spicer's appearance.
