'Avengers: Endgame' Broke Every Box Office Record in The Book

The final installment of the MCU shattered already towering expectations with a historic opening weekend.

The numbers are (mostly) in. Avengers: Endgame is officially the destroyer of all box office standards.

According to Variety, the MCU closer (capping a 10-year, 22-film run,) pulled in an unthinkable $1.2 billion in global sales this weekend. Anchored by $350 million in domestic sales (a record,) Endgame snapped its fingers on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, topping the previous record-holder by over $100 million (accounting for 80% of all tickets sold for movies this weekend.)

The New York Times notes that the film has clocked in at #1 in 54 countries with China contributing $330 million of the bar-setting $859 million in global sales. They add that theaters are having trouble keeping up with the demand for the film. AMC added more than 5,000 screenings to meet ticket requests, while other theaters are now offering round-the-clock screenings. What's more, Endgame has also secured the record for highest single-day sales, racking up $156 million on Friday alone.

Avengers: Endgame is in theaters now. And it doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon. Watch the film's final trailer below.
