An Atlanta Salon Played A Pivotal Role In Donald Glover's "Redbone"

Donald Glover also reveals he has been working on new music.

In a new interview with BBC Radio 1 Glover talked about the second season of his critically-acclaimed TV series Atlanta, working on new music, and how his mom and a hairdresser in Atlanta helped shape "Redbone" into the hit single it inevitably became.

"That was the breaking point, my mom was like 'this song's good,'" Glover said. "She plays it all the time."

Glover then recounts how he showed an unfinished version of "Redbone" at an Atlanta salon, and although the group enjoyed the song's beginning they did not care much for the rest of the track.

"The middle I felt like needed some work because they weren't responding the same way," Glover said. "So I went back in the studio and worked on it."

Glover then gets into Atlanta and reveals that he thinks the forthcoming second season is better than the first.

"I'm not the type of person to rush anything," Glover said in regards to Atlanta. "I feel like if you rush it, you'll start to get something you don't want and then you start to question why you even liked it. I'm not gonna make anything until it's ready. But to be completely honest, it's almost ready. I'm pretty happy with a lot of the things, and I think it's better than the first season."

Glover had already stated beforehand that the second season of the show would be delayed until 2018 because of his work on the untitled Han Solo film (where he will portray a young Lando Calrissian). Other future endeavors such as being in charge of an animated Deadpool series with brother Stephen for FXX surely plays a part in Atlanta's delay too.

As for music, the topic came about when host DJ Clara Amfo did not know how to refer to Glover, considering earlier this year he declared that he was working on one more album under the Childish Gambino name.

"Because it's Donald Glover, though. But then there's Childish Gambino, but I knew there's an issue about retiring," Amfo said.

"You still have a lot more time of calling me [Childish Gambino] if you want," Gambino responded. He then addressed making new music saying "I've been working on that here. "You guys have been very instrumental in my music. London has been very inspirational."
