‘Atlanta,’ ‘Rick and Morty,’ and ‘Black Mirror,’ Win Big at Early Emmy’s Ceremony

The ceremony saw big wins for relative underdogs to HBO’s perpetual domination of network victories

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards commenced the first of two nights in distinguishing honors to the categories deemed even more unwatchable than most of the last half-decade in televised ceremonies.  Sadly, this means most of us won’t have the opportunity to cheer on our favorite small screen squads as they accept lesser-known medals for their respective and cumulative excellence.

According to Variety, Atlanta (FX) took home three statues; Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour,) Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour,) and  Guest Actor In A Comedy Series, for Katt Williams‘ stunning cameo in the season opener. Black Mirror (Netflix) matched with their own triplet of awards for the episode “USS Callister”; TV Movie, Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Limited Series Or Movie, and Sound Editing For Limited Series, Movie or Special.

Tiffany Haddish‘s Saturday Night Live hosting debut won the award (her first) for Best Guest Actress In A Comedy Series, while Rick and Morty (Adult Swim) also turned up its own first-ever Emmy for the notorious “Pickle Rick” episode, walking away with Best Animated Program, beating perennial cartoon powerhouses, South Park, Bob’s Burgers, and The Simpsons, along with the more kid-friendly, Big Hero 6.
