Watch Anthony Anderson and Talib Kweli Exchange Prince Party Stories
On the latest episode of People’s Party, the Black-ish star shared memories of their brief friendship.
The artist known as Prince Rogers Nelson was one of the entertainment industry’s most elusive figures. Even for other superstars, to come in contact with him was like encountering a unicorn in real life. With that said, consider Anthony Anderson among the luckiest people in the industry.
The Black-ish star joined Talib Kweli for the latest episode of Uproxx’s People’s Party. Kweli remarked that the show’s Prince episode was the Blackest episode of the series. In return, Anderson pointed out that his co-star Yara Shahidi and The Purple One have a connection of their own.
Shahidi’s father Afshin met Prince in 1993 and eventually became his personal cinematographer. The elder Shahidi became the only photographer allowed to shoot Prince’s 3121-nightclub private parties in Las Vegas. In 2017, Shahidi published a compilation of the pair’s work together titled Prince: A Private View.
In recent years, Anderson was fortunate enough to be welcomed into Prince’s orbit. In the episode, he and Kweli both shared a few stories from their star-studded friendship. The experiences range from jumping on-stage for impromptu performances in Las Vegas to sharing pasta and pizza at the Ritz Carlton with legendary Black figures. Notable names like Jamie Foxx, Tavis Smiley, Dr. Cornel West, and Whoopi Goldberg make guest appearances.
