In His Own Words: Five Animes You Should Watch If You’re Trying To Get Into Anime, According to King Vader

Source: King Vader

King Vader, the viral creative known for videos like Hood Naruto, is an anime enthusiast. So, here are his recommendations for starter anime series.

There are countless animes out there. Some are centered around the slaying of demons or fighting intergalactic superbeings. Others deal with romance, sports, or solving a convoluted crime. Toonami introduced anime to Western audiences in the ’90s; nowadays animes are accessible through countless streaming services. So, it’s understandable if you’ve been trying to get into other anime series but have no idea of where to start.

Well, anime enthusiast and Hood Naruto creator King Vader has some suggestions for you. The young creative has watched a handful of anime series and was kind enough to recommend five starter animes that range from action to suspense. Yes, you’ve probably heard of some of these before, but hopefully a couple of these suggestions you haven’t. Here’s King Vader’s five animes a person should watch if they’re trying to get into anime. Just remember — no Dragon Ball GT.

As told to Elijah Watson.

My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia has extreme heart, and what I mean by heart is that the show has a message that’s so strong and so powerful. I really feel like that’s definitely a start off anime. It’s not like 900 episodes or anything like that. It’s a show that’s good [with subtitles or dubbed] — either way you watch it you’re going to enjoy it.

Naruto

Naruto is a classic. It’s an anime that everyone should start off and watch. It’s something that could change your life and something that can instill self-belief into people.

Anything Dragon Ball — Except GT

Dragon Ball is just something you can watch and turn off your brain and enjoy it. If you’re a true fan and have been here for years,   it’s so amazing to see how far they’ve come, and you already know they’re going to keep going further. And the message with Dragon Ball Z and what resonates with Goku’s character is just breaking limits. That’s something that I get from that character — is to break limits. Every time he hits a new ceiling of power and you think that’s it, he always finds a way to break his limits and go further.

Death Note

Death Note is a good starting anime and it’s something that shows people that animes can be super complex and can have you like, “Wow, what?” It’s something that can keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing. There’s a lot of great detective shows. But I bet a lot of people don’t know that there’s great [animated] strategic shows like Death Note out there. People just probably think that’s only live-action shows and stuff like that. But there’s actually great shows like that and Death Note is one of them.

Attack On Titan

Attack On Titan does a great job of keeping you on the edge of your seat. It’s beautiful, it’s dope, it’s gory. If you think anime is only cartoon and fantasy, Attack On Titan is going to humble you and have you like, “Wow, what in the world is going on?” It brings you into a more cruel world — like shows that you’d see on AMC or Syfy. It has great storytelling as well.
