Andra Day Stuns in Official 'The United States vs. Billie Holiday' Trailer

Trevante Rhodes, Da'Vine Randolph, and Tyler James Williams also star in The United States vs. Billie Holiday which is slated to debut on Hulu.

All eyes are on Andra Day in her acting debut in the official trailer for The United States vs. Billie Holiday. The Grammy-nominated singer stars as the beloved blues singer who is renowned as the voice of her generation.

Directed by Lee Daniels, the film explores Holiday’s career as she was targeted by the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. It also centers around dark periods of her life including addiction and the trauma she coped with as she was heralded as an immense talent during a time of racial reckoning in the United States.

Trevante Rhodes stars as Jimmy Fletcher, an agent who was sent to infiltrate Holiday’s circle and spy on behalf of the now-dissolved FBN. Holiday and Fletcher are seen throughout the trailer together, pointing to their passionate love affair. Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Natasha Lyonne, Tyler James Williams, Garrett Hedlund, and LaKeith Stanfield round out the cast. Playwright Suzan-Lori Parks is credited as the screenwriter.

It's not a straight-on biopic, but it happened. Everything happened. It's all documented, so it's not like it didn't happen,” Daniel explains per ET. “But it's [also] a musical. And it's just my storytelling. It's what happens when we all get together and tell a story, a Black story."

On the film Day shares: "I almost looked at her voice as a character in and of itself." On that topic, she adds, “I look at her voice as sort of like a scroll and on it is written every point of trauma, every victory, every hit.”

The United States vs. Billie Holiday will exclusively arrive on Hulu on February 26. Watch the trailer below.
