Amazon Sets Release Date for Stacey Abrams Voting Rights Documentary

All In: The Fight for Democracy arrives in theaters and on-demand this fall.

Amazon has announced the premiere date for a new documentary on the battle for equal access to the ballot.

Directed by Liz Garbus (What Happened, Miss Simone?) and Lisa Cortes, All In: The Fight for Democracy is set to land in theaters on September 9th, hitting Amazon's Prime Video streaming service the following week (September 18th.)

The film unpacks the country's voter suppression crisis and features former Georgia gubernatorial candidate, Stacey Abrams, who challenged the results of her 2018 race against Brian Kemp after losing by just 55,000 votes. Abrams contested the count on the grounds that Kemp refused to resign as Georgia's Secretary of State while running for governor. The move effectively made Kemp the referee for his own election, which many have pointed to as a clear conflict of interest at best and a blatant abuse of power at worst. Ahead of his race with Abrams, Kemp also reportedly delayed the processing of 53,000 voting applications (the vast majority of which were from communities of color,) and in the six years prior, purged more than 1.4 million names from the state's voter registry (670,000 in 2017 alone.)

According to Deadline, the film's release will be paired with a social impact campaign designed to demystify the voting process during an election year that will heavily rely on mail-in and absentee ballots, educating and mobilizing first-time voters.

"Today, we are 100 days out from Election Day – a pivotal moment in our mission to protect our democracy – and we need to come together as a country and make sure every voice and vote is counted," Abrams said in a statement. She adds, "If our votes were not important, so many folks wouldn’t be working so hard to take our right to vote away."
