Swizz Beatz Slips up and Says A Tribe Called Quest & OutKast 'Verzuz' Is Happening

On Friday, in a clip that was posted on Twitter, the producer shared that a battle between the groups would be happening.

Swizz Beatz has shared that OutKast and A Tribe Called Quest will be battling in an upcoming Verzuz.

In a newly surfaced clip that landed on Twitter, Swizz acknowledged that the two groups would be squaring off. In the video, he can be seen saying “[It's] pending. I wasn’t even supposed to say.” He also added, “Q-Tip is my brother, but that man. Andre 3000, but that man.” That subtle jab could allude to ongoing copyright issues that are required before Verzuz events are even announced.

This year Verzuz has provided a bit of comfort as the entire nation has coped with the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine. A few of the most memorable moments included the Jill Scott vs. Erykah Badu, Patti La Belle vs. Gladys Knight and Monica vs. Brandy. Representing the Southern states Rick Ross and 2 Chainz also battled earlier in 2020.

OutKast and A Tribe Called Quest would be an implication that the platform is seeking to further elevate itself as a staple in the Black music space. Andre 3000 and Big Boi represent Southern rap that pushed Atlanta to the forefront of hip-hop culture that’s irreversible. On the other end of the spectrum New York’s Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammed and Phife Dawg created a laid-back energy that is forever injected in rap. A Tribe Called Quest’s thoughtful lyricism still influences music today.

Later in the clip, Swizz also said, “Verzuz is not just something for the pandemic. It’s something for the culture permanently.” To wrap up his thoughts he shared, “We got so many lined up, we ain’t even start yet.

The newest Verzuz lineup features T.I. vs. Jeezy. It’s slated for Thursday, November 19th at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET.
