King of the Hill fans unite: a revival of the animated sitcom is coming to Hulu. On Tuesday, reports confirmed that the 20th Television Animation series is set to return along with co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels and its former cast.
Judge will reprise his role as protagonist Hank Hill, while Kathy Najimy returns as his wife Peggy, Stephen Root as Bill, Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill, Johnny Hardwick as Dale and Lauren Tom as Minh. Brittney Murphy, who played Luanne Platter, died in 2009. The Emmy-winning series originally ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2010.
The reboot has been in development since 2017. Set in Arlen, Texas, King of the Hill follows Hank Hill, a devoted salesman of propane and propane accessories, his dimwitted-but-well meaning substitute teacher wife, Peggy, and their 13-year-old son, Bobby. Supporting Hank are his friends; conspiracy theorist Dale, military barber Bill and the suave but inarticulate Boomhauer. Peggy’s friends Minh and meteorologist Nancy also join, while Bobby’s friend, Connie, doubles as his occasional love interest.
“We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy and Bobby, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and continue the conversations we began years ago,” said Craig Erwich, president, ABC Entertainment, Hulu and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, in a statement. “This show has all of the perfect ingredients to meet this moment in animation at Hulu, and we’re so thankful to be having those conversations alongside this talented group.”
