Veteran journalist S.H. Fernando Jr will tell the tale of late rap giant MF DOOM in an upcoming biography. Titled The Chronicles of Doom: Unraveling Rap’s Masked Iconoclast, the Astra House book is “a sweeping and definitive biography” that will “recount the rise, fall, redemption and untimely demise of one of Hip Hop’s most enigmatic and influential figures.”

Fernando, who’s contributed to The New York TimesRolling StoneSpin, and Vibe, published Wu-Tang Clan biography From the Streets of Shaolin: The Wu-Tang Saga last August, along with The New Beats: Exploring the Music, Culture & Attitudes of Hip-Hop in 1994.

Astra House senior editor shared that he Danny Vazquez “could not be more excited” to publish The Chronicles of Doom.

“[MF DOOM]’s story has been recounted endlessly on the internet. Amateur music historians have tried, and failed, time and time again, to tell his complete story,” he said. “S.H. Fernando is here to tell that story — from KMD to Adult Swim to the villain’s final chapter escaping death in the public eye for two whole months before it was announced in the most sensational fashion on New Year’s Eve 2020.”

MF DOOM died on October 31st, 2020, although his wife Jasmine confirmed his death on December 31st of that year in an Instagram post. Super What?, DOOM’s final collaborative album with rapper Czarface was released last May.

The Chronicles of Doom: Unraveling Rap’s Masked Iconoclast is set to be published in 2024.
