With the original run of Power officially in the rearview, 50 Cent is on to his next crime drama for Starz. On Thursday morning, the rapper-turned-premium-cable-star unveiled a teaser for his incoming series, BMF, which is inspired by the meteoric rise and inevitable demise of the infamous Black Mafia Family crime syndicate. The show will presumably center on BMF’s founders, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, who launched the organization in Detroit in 1989 and went on to establish a nationwide drug trafficking empire that operated out of Los Angeles and Atlanta until eventually being disbanded by the DEA with a series of indictments targeting both Flenory brothers and hundreds of their associates.
Premiering on Sunday, September 26th, the series will star Meech’s son as his father, as well as Lala Anthony, and Snoop Dogg as a spiritual adviser to the Flenory brothers. The show will also have a soundtrack, of course, which currently features a song from 42 Dugg and Jeezy, who was one of several notable clients of the organization’s long-defunct event promotion arm, but doesn’t appear to have the favor of 50 despite his ties to Black Mafia Family Entertainment. In a recent interview, 50 bashed a verse submitted by the Atlanta rapper and claims to be actively attempting to have him removed from the song. The new series will mark another new chapter for 50 Starz, as his Power universe continues to expand with four spinoff series, each centering on either the origins or continuation of a character’s story. Power Book II: Ghost premiered in September of 2020 and Power Book III: Raising Kanan is already locked in for two seasons, the first of which is set to debut this Sunday, July 18th.
