YG Drops “FTP” Video, With Graphic Footage From Nationwide Protests

YG sparked backlash earlier this week for recording during the protests.

On Friday, YG dropped the official video for his new track “FTP.” The track takes aim at police all over the country. The release comes days after he teamed up with Black Lives Matter’s Los Angeles chapter to organize a protest in Hollywood. Stream the video below.

Originally, the protest was taking place the weekend of May 28th. YG decided to reschedule with BLM to ensure fans’ safety. Director Ron Kurokawa shot most of the video at the protests on Sunday. YG’s decision quickly sparked backlash on social media. “YG getting 20,000 people to Hollywood and Vine to “protest,” one user wrote. “Only to use them as a backdrop…in the middle of a pandemic…is the weakest shit I’ve ever heard.”

On Monday morning, he replied to the comments.

“For anyone out there talking,” he wrote on Instagram, “I don’t question your advocacy and don’t think you should question mine. See you gotta understand that a lot of people out there see me as a n*gga…They see a kid form Bompton and they expect violence.

“They hear FTP and they think I’m gonna come and burn my city,” he continued. “We showed up and did it right…the real story here is me and Black Lives Matter brought out 50,000 people today to protest and unite for change.”

Days before premiering the video, YG announced a 4Hunnid pop-up shop set for July. Proceeds from the event will go to Black-owned businesses affected by vandalism in Los Angeles.
