Westside Gunn has dropped his new album, Pray for Paris.

Doot Doot Doot Doot.

Griselda’sWestside Gunn has released his new album, Pray for Paris. It's the rapper's first album since 2018's Supreme Blientele. (Even though he has released two Hitler Wears Hermestapes and the Flygod is an Awesome God tape during that period.)

Pray for Paris features appearances from Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine, Tyler, the Creator, Joey Bada$$ Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano, and more. On the production side, Gunn gets assistance from The Alchemist, DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, Jay Versace, Tyler, and more. This album caps off a productive period for the Griselda crew; over the last six months the crew has put out a group album under Shday, a mixtape from Benny the Butcher, a collabo EP with Conway and The Alchemist, and now this album.

The cover of the album was designed by fashion designer Virgil Abloh. (Virgil had Gunn make an appearance during his Off-White show last year.) A couple of hours after the album dropped, GQ released an interview with Gunn and Virgil where they talked about their mutual respect for each other. At one point Virgil mentioned a comment Drake made about their crew and their appeal. Virgil said:

Oddly enough our friend Drake put it the best, when he basically said that that chamber of hip hop—which is probably the link to the most pure hip hop era—has never been as fly as the version that Gunn and the Griselda crew bring. That's just a matter of fact. Usually conscious rap or “real hip hop” is not at the forefront of what's happening in culture. But when Drake put it that way, we all felt it.

It's been quite the month for Westside Gunn. Last weekend the rapper revealed that he had a severe case of COVID-19 (coronavirus). In an Instagram post, that's since been deleted, Gunn said;

I have a confession to Make I’m a Corona Survivor. I didn’t want anybody feeling sorry for me. I had to thug it out for weeks. I didn’t get to see my kids. I went to the hospital feeling like I was breathing my last breath. The fans and the love I was getting kept me strong.

Thankfully, FlyGod is doing better and dropping some fire. Stream Pray for Paris below.
