As Kendrick Lamar continues his reign atop the charts, a fresh batch of releases have arrived to challenge Compton’s King for the spot. Chances are Kung Fu Kenny’s not going anywhere, but with new projects from Logic, Mac DeMarco, Perfume Genius and The Internet‘s drummer, Christopher A. Smith, there’s plenty of new sounds to swig as we creep into these off-days.
Then there’s some high-profile, high-style singles from the likes of Nick Hakim, HAIM, Omar (whose Leon Ware collaboration “Gave My Heart” got touched by the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff) dvsn and Anik Khan. And that’s still only the short list of new heat from the first week of May. Naturally, we’ve assembled all of the week’s standouts into another highly-enjoyable, slightly-educational installment of The Round-Up. Cause if we’re gonna get through another 100 days in Trump’s America, the tunes are gonna need to remain plentiful and potent.
