The first Mixtape Monday ahead of the holiday break, this week’s collection is dedicated to the producers and selectors.

DJ Underdog teams with NativeSUN for the third installment of 108’s & Heartbreaks. Bronx native John Morales follows with a classic NYC underground set for BBE’s M+M Mixes series. King Most bodies an uptempo dance mix for KPFK’s Soundwaves Radio and Anthony Valadez treats listeners to a handful of "Set One" gems.

Setting an impossibly high bar for the artists and producers, Kaidi Tatham crushes with the seamless Hard Times EP. Keeping momentum, Sly5thAve drops a timeless tribute to Dr. Dre.  Thelonius Coltrane follows with One For My Daylight. Lateef Dameer presents First Kiss, Ewonee shines through the complex soundscapes of Molecular Structure, and Dave Dar secures the pure.

John Morales - The M+M Mixes Vol. 4

Bronx-bred remix king John Morales pays tribute to disco on Volume 4 of BBE’s M&M Mixes series.

Described wholly accurately by Boiler Room as “one of the best producers and arrangers of disco music to have ever done it”, Bronx native John Morales has more than three decades of hits and over 800 remixes to his credit. This 4th volume of M&M Mixes on BBE is without doubt the most ambitious yet, containing gems from Barry White, Diana Ross, Level 42, Teddy Pendergrass and Eddie Kendricks among others, all woven together with that special, intricate M&M magic. Gaining unprecedented access to original multitrack recordings from the vaults of Sony and Universal Records, John has once again upped the ante, going where no DJ has gone before. Accept no imitations, nobody does remixes quite like John Morales.

King Most - Sound Waves Radio 11.18.17

Taking a break from dropping his signature re-directions, King Most steps to the plate with a 30-minute set for KPFK’s Sound Waves Radio. The bass-heavy mix features vintage funk, latin jams, r&b and more. Austin Lebron, Dam-Funk and IGBO are just a few of the names that make the cut.

Anthony Valadez - As Heard On KCRW 11.13.17

Left Coast selector and KCRW institution Anthony Valadez drops a treat for listeners with a collection of his “Set One” jams for the month of November 2017.

My first 20-60 minutes are crucial in setting the tone for the next few hours on my radio radio show. SET ONES set the vibe and pace and I always record them. I found a bunch of these recorded mixes from the past year and wanted to share them with you. Im in the mix every Monday night from 00-0300 [PST] on 89.9 FM KCRW. Worldwide at KCRW.COM.

DJ Marcus Brito - Sounds In The Hereafter Ep. 033

Toronto’s own Marcus Brito rinses future beats, lofi gems, experimental jams and more on Episode 033 of Sounds In The Hereafter. The iLive Webradio weekly is a “journey in sound highlighting the production of creatives in beat culture, instrumental and experimental music” that specializes in breaking underground artists.

Kaidi Tatham - Hard Times

UK sound man and Bugz In Attic’s own Kaidi Tatham drops yet another stunner with the arrival of Hard Times. The follow-up to February’s Changing Times EP and his recent work with DJ Jazzy Jeff’s PLAYlist project, the 4-track release is a nu-funk masterpiece.

The harder the times get, the more imperative our need to let off some sweat on the dancefloor.

Sly5thAveThe Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute To Dr. Dre

Sly5thAve is the man behind a tour de force orchestral tribute to West Coast rap giant Dr. Dre, entitled The Invisible Man.

Multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer Sly5thAve releases one of his most accomplished works to date: ‘The Invisible Man: An Orchestral Tribute To Dr. Dre’. This recording is the result of a concert assembled by Sly5thAve aka Sylvester Onyejiaka, Eric Coleman (Mochilla) and Kentyah Fraser – who brought in Playing For Change, the non-profit music charity – and was dedicated to building a music school in Compton. Taking place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, some of L.A.’s finest musicians performed at the “Cali-Love” show which was attended by Dr. Dre–who took to the stage to congratulate Sly5thAve’s arrangements – and over 1,200 people who witnessed the first taste of Sly5thAve’s orchestral tribute to Dr. Dre’s legacy.

Thelonious Coltrane - One For My Daylight

Frankfurt’s own Thelonious Coltrane follows the exhaustive VHS Tape with the groove heavy project One For My Daylight. Mining jazz, boogie funk, deep house and soul, he travels around the world in seven tracks on the criminally short project.

Lateef Dameer - First Kiss

Jersey City producer Lateef Dameer follows lead single “No Colors” with the 9-track album First Kiss. The largely instrumental release is a mighty score that includes nods to new jazz leaders, broken beat, trap, Golden Era hip-hop and neo-soul. The Native Tongues and Soulquarian influence is most apparent but each track sports Dameer’s unmistakable signature.

Ewonee - Molecular Structure

Billed as “a testament to the very fiber of our difference,” Ewonee’s Molecular Structure is complex web of sonic ideas that combine with boom-bap and drum & bass to mirror the labyrinthine structure of constellations, religious calligraphy and geometric diagrams. With Molecular Structure, Ewonee travels inward to journey beyond the earthly confines of sound.

Dave Dar - The Star Seed EP

Dave Dar secures the pure on his solo debut entitled The Star Seed EP. The 5-track project from the musical triple threat is reflective of his talents in the booth and behind the boards. Dave Dar stands shoulder to shoulder with collaborators Homeboy Sandman, Rasheed Chappell and Milano Constantine on the true school release, which lands ahead of the forthcoming Star Seed LP and champions the classic New York City sound.
