Dominating your airwaves is another installment of fiery beats, rhymes and life as Mixtape Monday drops on your head top for the week of June 10th.

Episode TK finds us hearing new work from The Stuyvesants to legends such as Twista and Lil Wayne. We have sweet selections for lovers of beat tapes, heavy wordplay gymnastics from elite MCs and soulful samples for you to dig into. With the likes of Drew Dave representing for the DMV with his Jonts tape, we also have David Begun mashing Marshall Mathers (Eminem) with Mecca and the Soul Brother.

Abstract Orchestra pays homage to J Dilla and Lil Dave and Personify, as always, have Gotcha Covered. We also have fresh goodness from Detroit supreme selector and Dirt Tech Reck founder, Waajeed. David Begun - Marshall And The Soul Brother

Marshall Mathers and Pete Rock join forces on David Begun’s thumping 14-track mashup project Marshall And The Soul Brother. The project boasts the best of the Motor City and Mount Vernon and sports a title that is a fun play on the classic Mecca and the Soul Brother LP.

Mashup of legendary hip-hop producer Pete Rock with the illustrious lyricist Eminem. David Begun has layered Eminem's lyrics over the beats from the Petestrumentals album and mixing in various Pete Rock original samples and scratches to form a picture of what Eminem would have sounded like over one of the most acclaimed producers of hip-hop music in the 90's.

Mogillah - In Livin' Color

Baltimore’s own Mogillah communes with the ancestors and celebrates the richness of black music on the “transcendent” 18-track In Livin' Color beat tape.

In Livin' Color was inspired and serves as a dedication to my ancestors and heritage. We all have ancestors, both of blood and of spirit, and each of our lives rests firmly on the foundation of their sacrifice. My ancestors are as near to me as my breath and bones, and when connected to in conscious ways, they can be a tremendous source of healing, guidance, and companionship. Drew Dave - Jonts

DMV representative Drew Dave teams with Dart Adams to drop a gem for Producers I Know with the arrival of the Jonts tape. The 20-track instrumental project is an ode to The Urrea that was produced between 2015 and 2017. Jonts follows the crackling, chord driven lead single “PineappleRockCreek” and features artwork from DJ Roddy Rod.

Waajeed - Shango EP

Dirt Tech Reck founder and Detroit institution, Waajeed, follows “Better Late Than Never” with the 3-track Shango EP. The thumping dance project is a polyphonic masterpiece that fuses techno, house and experimental music to produce a shimmering, futuristic ode to African rhythms. It is only fitting, then, that the project is named for Shango -- the orisha or god of fire, lightning and thunder.

Lil Dave x Personify - Gotcha Covered Vol. 2

DJ’s Lil Dave and Personify drop another joint for your ears with the arrival of Gotcha Covered Vol. 2. The project is the follow-up to their inaugural Gotcha Covered collaborative, which dropped in 2013.

lil'dave (Illvibe Collective) and Personify (Little Big Things) are back at it with another genre bending mix of some of the illest covers you'll ever hear. Abstract Orchestra - Dilla

Hip-hop big band, Abstract Orchestra, pays tribute to James DeWitt Yancey with the 15-track Dilla project. Taking the baton from projects like Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s Suite for Ma Dukes, the El Michels Affair’s Return to the 37th Chamber and Will Sessions’ Illmatic tribute Elmatic, the UK outfit presents their interpretation of J Dilla’s celebrated instrumental productions.

Abstract Orchestra seeks to reflect the diversity of music sampled by Hip-Hop producers by presenting music that has the complexity of jazz, framed within the simpler structures of Hip-Hop. Complex harmonies are framed within simple loops and complex bar structures and time signatures can pass by unnoticed. "I selected the tracks on the album with very much the live performance in mind" says band-leader and arranger Rob Mitchell "So the album is a reflection of the tour and the music we performed". Inspired by the legendary live performances of The Roots with Jay-Z and the 40 piece orchestral arrangements by Miguel-Atwood Ferguson of the work of J Dilla, classic arranging techniques underpin modern loop-based structures.

Lil Wayne - In Tune We Trust

Lil Wayne follows “Magnolia” (Freestyle) with the 4-track In Tune We Trust mixtape. ITWT arrives ahead of Dedication 6 and his highly-anticipated Tha Carter V full-length, which still has no release date. Tabling his ongoing dispute with Cash Money Records just long enough to send a kite to fans, the Young Money boss drops joints featuring Jeezy, Young Thug, Gudda Gudda, Jay Jones and Euro.

Twista - Crook County

Twista takes a vivid journey through the streets of Chitown and plants his flag as a battle tested veteran on Crook County. As one might expect, Twista showcases the multitude of flows he’s perfected over the years and spits plenty of game. The latest since his 2014 The Dark Horse LP, the 13-track tape boasts production from Zenzan Beats and Zaytoven.
