Mac Miller’s final studio album has been released. The album, called Circles, is described by Mac Miller’s family as being a companion project to Swimming, his 2018 album.
When the Mac Miller estate announced Circles last week, they wrote about the album’s origins.
At the time of his passing, Malcolm was well into the process of recording his companion album to Swimming, entitled Circles. Two different styles complementing each other, completing a circle — Swimming in Circles was the concept.
Mac Miller worked primarily with famed producer and composer Jon Brion, who has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Frank Ocean, Janelle Monáe, Beyoncé, Fiona Apple, and more. He has also scored iconic movies like Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Lady Bird, and more.
The album’s first single is “Good News,” which also features a video directed by Eric Tilford and Anthony Gaddis.
Mac Miller also released a video for “Hand Me Downs.” That video was also directed by Tilford and Gaddis.
Mac Miller tragically died on September 7, 2018 the age of 26. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, Miller died from an accidental drug overdose after mixing fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol.
By September 2019, three people were arrested in connection with the overdose death of the rapper. According to reports, Miller reached out to Cameron James Pettit for Percocet who then contacted Stephen “Stevie” Walter to buy the product. Walter sold Pettit counterfeit pills that contained fentanyl. Another man, Ryan Reavis, acted as a runner in the fatal drug deal.
