Back in 2017, Philly natives, lojii and Swarvy, redefined the “lo-fi” tag with their debut collaborative album, DUE RENT. A critical and pedestrian darling, the hulking and hypnotic double-album was released via Fresh Selects, the venerable Portland-based indie label that’s provided a launchpad for the careers of SiR, Kadhja Bonet, Mndsgn, Charlotte Dos Santos, and more.
Today, the duo shares a two-sided single, “potion” and “blok,” reworking a pair of cuts from DUE RENT, as they ready the release of a recalibrated version of the project (an extension of Swarvy’s ongoing “Blends” remix series.) We are ecstatic to be premiering the two new tracks. On “potion,” a lush and seductive soul flip does the heavy-lifting where a warm rhodes glide and guitar strum were once the melodic anchors. And on “blok,” the sun-soaked keys and spacious synth beds of a mid-to-late-’80s R&B record dial back the driving funk of the original cut.
Arriving on April 23rd, DUE RENT (Blends) is as much a revamp of their 2017 crossover as a standalone catalog item for both MC and producer, featuring new vocals and adlibs from lojii, hoping to “match the energy” of Swarvy’s overnight, but never rushed, edits.
Hear the new blends of “potion” and “blok” below. Pre-order your copy of the DUE RENT remix project today ahead of the official drop and hold tight for their next transmission.
