Homeboy Sandman Connects with Quelle Chris for Cynical New Single “Extinction” [Premiere]

Homeboy Sandman and Quelle Chris will release their album next month.

Next month, two underground favorites, Homeboy Sandman and Quelle Chris, will release an album together called Don’t Feed The Monster. Although Chris is a world-class MC himself, Sandman will be doing all the rapping while Quelle handles the production. Two weeks ago, the two released the first single, the deeply personal “Trauma.”

The follow-up single — which we are premiering today — is “Extinction.” The track is excellent and features Homeboy in top form. Quelle gives Sandman a sparse, sci fi-sounding beat for Sandman to vent on, rapping:

“I find I come across a lot of non-believers, with the exception of believing in the hype. And you’re not relevant unless your as big as Bieber, and you’re an activist as long as you can type.”

In an email, Sandman broke down what he was thinking when recording the song. He wrote:

“I‘m just looking at the values and the lies and the delusions and the posturing and the denial it’s gotten to the level of being completely surreal. I just can’t wrap my head around it. How much further can this possibly go?”

Although they are labelmates and have toured together in the past, this is the first time Homeboy Sandman and Quelle Chris have recorded an album together. Chris, speaking about the album in a press release, said:

“It’s rare to come across a brother/artist like Sandman. The way he finds balance in using his words to self-medicate, reflect and express himself while also deeply taking into consideration how it will feed, medicate and effect his fans/listeners in the now and the future. Everyone talks about keeping it real. Sands keeps it fucking real. We cut songs simply because we didn’t want to carry or spread the negative spirits or energies that were attached to the songs when first created. We were no longer in that that space and only wanted to project growth and not regression. Being careful not to feed the monster. It’s an honor to work with someone who understands that. Who owns, respects and responsibly wields the power of their words and holds that same respect for the listener and their chambers of health. As a producer it’s just a joy to see your sonic canvases given greater and new life. To be a part of and witness to the story as it was written and to share the story with the world in album form is one of those priceless gifts that come with this “job” we chose. There’s a certain magical power in this album. Raw, pure, organic magic.”

Sandman was a little blunter when he said:

“I was having a hard time and this record saved me thank Quelle and thank God and shout to Gabor Maté.”
