Fat Tony’s “Texas” Is A Punk Ode To The Lone Star State [Premiere]

“I see you flexin’ but I’m Texan / I ain’t with the disrespectin’.”

Fat Tony is a proud Texan. Sure, he lives in Los Angeles now but the born and raised Houston rapper (who now officially has his own day in the city) will always and forever rep H-Town and the Lone Star state it resides in. Case in point? Tony’s new track “Texas,” which Okayplayer is premiering.

The two-minute-long song is a punk ode to Texas, the production reminiscent of Le Tigre and Devo. Throughout the track, Tony makes references to items and people associated with the state. From Selena Quintanilla and Pimp C to Shiner Bock beer, the rapper celebrates some of the things his beloved Texas offers. However, not everything is great. As he calls out the National Rifle Association and ignorant politicians, as well as Austin’s South By Southwest shortchanging artists and musicians, it becomes apparent that even though he considers Texas the apple of his eye, it could be better.

“Texas” is the first single from Tony’s forthcoming fifth album 10,000 Hours. “The album title is about where I am in my career,” Tony says. “I’m not a novice. I’ve dedicated a decade in my life to doing this.”

The 14-track release was recorded in Los Angeles throughout 2018 and produced by Tony’s longtime friend, Hevln. It will be released on September 28 via Don Giovanni Records. Check out the tracklist for the album below.
