About Gil Scott Heron

A pioneer in poetry and music, the late Gil Scott-Heron helped lay the foundation for hip-hop music, often being considered one of the first rappers/MCs ever. With albums like his Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, Scott-Heron was able to establish himself early on as a prominent writer with songs such as “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” and “The Bottle”. Gil Scott-Heron was actively performing and releasing music up until his death in 2011, with his final studio album I’m New Here released in 2010.
