About BJ The Chicago Kid

As his name implies, the singer-songwriter born Bryan James Sledge was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois to church choir director parents. At the age of 19, he moved to Los Angeles to begin his career in music. He was a backup singer for the gospel duo Mary Mary and wrote for many R&B and gospel acts such as Shirley Caesar, Lalah Hathaway, and Kindred the Family Soul.

BJ was most notably featured on ScHoolboy Q’s hit single “Studio” which earned him a Grammy nomination, along with his second studio albumĀ In My Mind earning a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album.
