Rapsody Delivers A Heartbreaking New Video For "The Man"

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Fresh off the buzz from her To Pimp A Butterfly feature, Rapsody has dropped a brand new video for "The Man," a heart-rending black and white clip that tells the story of a fatherless family doing its best to keep on track. Over a sparse, knocking beat produced by Eric G Rapsody paints a touching scene, line after line, and captures much of the fear and responsibility that can fall on a young son when he's forced to become the man of the house in the wake of an absent father. The video follows Rapsody's lines, giving us greyscale cityscape shots of a teenage boy moving from household chores to a full-time job before ultimately confronting the prodigal father that was never there. In between it all we're treated to shots of the MC braving a cold, snowy night--there's really nothing but struggle in this audio-visual.

"The Man" also features vocal work from Heather Victoria and was featured on Rapsody's 2014 Beauty and the Beast EP. Many got their first taste of the lady MC's talent on Kendrick Lamar's new cut "Complexion," but those in the know have been appreciating her work for many months now.
