A fan recently identified the source of the sample for Kanye West‘s “New Slaves” as Hungarian rock band Omega – a supergroup formed in the early 60s and compared to The Beatles with respect to their popularity in Hungary. Omega’s song ”Gyöngyhajú Lány” anchors the track Kanye dropped on the facades of 66 buildings across the globe last week. The debut featured Kanye West’s face in a foreboding black and white projection that played like a much more menacing Max Headroom. Check the original track below. Kanye West‘s SNL appearance saw him losing his mind a little–in a good way (I think). We got to see the “screaming thing” Daft Punk recently described as his new vocal style on the Saturday Night Live debut of “Black Skinhead” plus a performance of “New Slaves” which technically already premiered on 66 walls worldwide but premieres here for the first time without windows and bricks visible in the lines of Ye’s face. In “New Slaves” Kanye describes himself as “going Bobby Boucher” but it sounds more like he’s going Obama-going-Bulworth and I for one support it (I think). Love it or hate it, it was definitely everything you expected from a Kanye West SNL guest spot. While “Awesome” seemed like a bit of a throwback to 808s & Heartbreak Kanye, these two new songs are kind of a throwback to “All Falls Down” Kanye with a much harder, more schizo edge…while he goes 1980s Adam Ant on the music side (and manifests his continued ambition to be the new version of Andy Warhol with the graphics and performance art approach). Watch below and let the WTF? conversation begin with us…

Kanye West‘s “New Slaves” video has apparently been screened on 66 walls worldwide in a kind of guerilla-action version of a premiere. Yeezy announced the distributed-premiere action last night via twitter with a link to the map of total world domination he has set up on his website www.kanyewest.com. The map (scroll down for a screenshot) shows red squares at 10 cities around the globe from New York to Sydney, Australia, with 6 or 7 locations within each city. Click on the city and you get a city map with times listed for the various screenings. Miss Info was on hand for the projection on the wall of the Wythe hotel last night right here in lovely Williamsburg, Brooklyn and our UK bredrins at SoulCulture captured the screening on the wall of the Old Truman Brewery in East London just a few moments ago (see above, Yeezy’s visage emblazoned on the wall of the 5th Avenue Prada store in Manhattan). Kanye is also expected to premiere material from the new album–which we now know is titled Yeezus and will indeed drop on June 18th, as suspected–on his appearance as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live which will air on NBC in just about 30 minutes from now. Kanye West‘s SNL promo reel hit the web this evening (in case you were missing him). Kanye will be the musical guest for the 5th time on this weekend’s season finale of Saturday Night Live with host Ben Affleck. One can assume that he will be debuting songs from his forthcoming album and that it will be of higher quality than the fan-posted videos taken from recent shows. These recent snippets of new material seem to point at an almost anti-808s & Heartbreak in the sense that there is a harsher, more intense dance vibe going on in addition to being in a relationship with Kim Kardashian. Only time will tell. UPDATE: Some of the original clips have been taken down so we are swapping in others as they come online…at the moment there’s two decent versions of “Awesome” but none of the other, more dub-steppy song which people are speculating might be a Skrillex collabo. Stay chuned.

Kanye West put on a show in NYC at Roseland Ballroom for Adult Swim’s Upfront event, while I’ve been sitting here in front of this damn computer screen all night (I lose). I’ve been waiting for better footage to hit the net, but it does not seem to be coming. So be advised, none of these videos are worth watching, but the sound quality is more than good enough to hit play on. Yeezy apparently had a near hour long set and performed music from his upcoming album. The first two clips give you a sample of two songs, one of which Hudmo already gave us, the other people are titling “Awesome” (and seems to be about Kim K), and the third is vintage Kanye ranting about why he’s the worst celebrity, the paparazzi, his upcoming SNL appearance etc. “  I ain’t runnin’ for office. Kanye West, imma let you finish…but this fan-made documentary Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings is one of the best of all time! Superfan James Workman has compiled a chronological journey through Ye’s career; a 45-minute video featuring clips from behind the scenes, in the studio and on stage ranging from the time of College Dropout right up to his most recent album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Addressing his fellow Ye-fanatics on fan forum KanyeToThe.com, Workman wrote:

“I entitled it Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings (I know that’s not the actual line in Eyes Closed), because I feel like that sums up Kanye’s career – The outsider. The misunderstood genius.

Let me know when it’s taken down (I’ll try to re-up), and let me know what you think of it!

In other Kanye news, it seems that his forthcoming album will be released on June 18. A week or so ago the backpacker-turned-pop-star famously and mysteriously tweeted “June Eighteenth,” opening the door for speculation as to the date’s significance, but now HVM Japan has a Kanye West release scheduled to come out on June 19th, which seems to give the presumed album release date a verified check-mark. Hudson Mohawke was kind enough to give Kanye West fans a quick fix with a preview of two new tracks from his forthcoming LP. The G.O.O.D. Music signee dropped the tracks without warning during a recent DJ set at the Free Form Festival in Poland. From the sound of things, these tracks will pick up where Kanye’s production on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy left off, bending bpm and brooding emotion to the limit. These tracks follow the tracks West recently premiered at the 2013 Met Gala. Aside from the music he’s been cooking up, Kanye West has also been busy flexing his acting chops on the set of Will Ferrell‘s Anchorman: The Legend Continues – the long-awaited sequel to his wildly popular 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy. In less exciting, but no less popular news Kanye West also managed to sustain a minor injury after paparazzi crowded his path, causing him to walk into a sign on his way to lunch with Kim Kardashian. Kanye West took stage at the Met Gala in New York City on Monday night to rock the crowd. What cannot be confirmed is whether anyone was aware that he would use the platform to debut new material from his forthcoming sixth solo LP. West took stage in a studded Givenchy fit and ran through more recent bangers, including “Clique” and a new track reportedly titled “I Am God.” He also dropped a personal shout to his boo, Kim K – Kanye reportedly told her not to worry what anyone says, she’s awesome. His performance was preceded by a cryptic tweet last week that read, simply: “June Eighteen” – a statement that has sent fans of the rapper/producer into a frenzy since landing on his timeline. What is not clear is whether the statement was a reference to Kim Kardashian‘s due date or the album drop. Either way, big tings a gwan for Kanye West. Keep your eyes open for more Yeezy. Amid a flurry of unreleased material spreading across the internet, Kanye West‘s demo has surfaced. The 15-track project entitled The Prerequisite is the precursor to his Grammy Award winning 2004 debut, College Dropout. The demo features rare and unreleased tracks – the oldest among them originating in 2001. This project follows throwback studio footage that surfaced a few years ago and includes demo versions of “Bring Me Down” and “All Falls Down.” The project also features “Never Letting Go” and “Gotta Pose” – both demo tracks that surfaced in 2008.
