You may recall Big K.R.I.T. dropped the stunning video for his track “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” – a retrospective ode to manhood as told through stills of his old Mississippi home and from-the-heart lyrics that explain his relationship with his father–back in December. The track plays like a note of thanks for an upbringing that was rich with love enough to fill the spaces left by any material wealth he lacked–and ends with a shot of K.R.I.T.’s father.

This behind-the-scenes video from Ambrosia For Heads. breaks down method behind the subtle visual madness of the video, a mix of animation and live action (shouts to Cinematic Music Group and Multi Alumni) featuring a flip book rendering of the rapper that shows him growing into a man. While we all eagerly anticipate the release of James Blake‘s upcoming Overgrown LP, Big K.R.I.T. borrows something from James’ back catalogue to craft his new video. To keep us from twiddling our thumbs while waiting for Big K.R.I.T. to release his next mixtape, King Remembered In Time, a teaser featuring the rapper and superproducer/DJ/university professor 9th Wonder cookin’ up some magic in the studio has dropped. Aside from getting some short glimpses of the creative process behind this highly-anticipated collaboration, the video also features 9th explaining some of the musical influences that he says K.R.I.T. developed into the ultimate southern flow. While the exact date of the album drop is unknown, the duo dropped the first single “Shine On” just a few weeks ago. Not to mention, the soulful percussion of a certain Marvin Gaye introducing the clip definitely help seal the deal. King Remembered In Time is slated for a 2013 release, but further details are yet to be revealed – here’s to hoping more videos like this emerge in the meantime.

Last month, when Big K.R.I.T. linked up with 9th Wonder and Rapsody in NC for “Gettin’ Mine,” I was hopeful that more than just that one song came from the session, they don’t make us wait long to get an answer. Crown Royal is starting a new campaign called Reign On, and commissioned K.R.I.T. and 9th to make a song in support of it.
