The Abstract

Q-Tip

Modern hip-hop and R&B music can both arguably be divided into pre- and post-A Tribe Called Quest, and the musical efforts of its lead MC and producer Kamaal Ibn John Fareed-better known to the world as Q-Tip. Consider the jazzy sampling, laid-back tempos and boho-chic vibe he introduced, then mull over the bohemian posturing and sounds of the neo-soul movement, plus any rap music that shies away from hardcore posturing. All roads lead back to ATCQ and the beats, rhymes and life of one man: Q-Tip. And now the time is ripe for The Renaissance, the Abstract MC's first solo album in nine years. Read more...

Ringo's Photos From Badu/Roots Tour And The Great Nike-Off

Posted on 06/20/2008
Although the Erykah Badu/The Roots tour is now officially over, we have the pleasure of being able to relive bits and pieces thanks to Ringo "Tumblin' Dice" Smith, Badu's tour DJ and one of her main producers.  Take a look at some of his tour photos featured below.  Unfortunately we had to take down the D'Angelo photos we had featured last week at the D camp's request.  But in other D news, Billboard reports that D'Angelo is making headway on his first studio album since Voodoo, which "which will likely be released early next year via J Records. The label purchased D'Angelo's contract in 2005 from Virgin, which issued his first two studio albums."  The article goes on to mention that "a source" has revealed to them that D has already recorded with Raphael Saadiq, and has plans to link up with John Mayer for a collabo as well.  Finally, they mention that we may even get a single before the year is up.  Hallelujah, this is good news! kirk_damon.jpgowenbiddle.jpgdominic.jpg
baduandco.jpgbaduwithlilsis.jpg (Top to bottom:  Capn' Kirk and Tuba Gooding Jr., Owen Biddle, and Dom who's The Roots road manager, Badu with her camp before hitting the stage, and Erykah with Ringo's little sister)

Aside from hangin with D'Angelo in VA, Ringo and ?uestlove, who have been homies for a while, and have collaborated together musically more than once (the first time they worked together was on a SWV song "I Wanna Be Where You Are" in '97), spent the tour chilling and trying to one-up each other.  The two BFFs have always had a slight competitive edge to their friendship.  Peep the photos below, showcasing their "Nike-Off" contest, and then take your opinion to the boards where you can vote in the poll "Who Kills Who On The Nike Tip?"and let the world know who you think rocks the freshest kicks.

?uesto kind of has to win by default, with Ringo using the same kicks twice...although I think Ringo would of had potential with his hi-top game on point.

dude.Ringo got the ill variety and colorways. However, points to Quest for his dedication to trainers only(here) and having a fresh pair for each pic. I call it a tie, perhaps due to, what i guess to be 'same shopping tour spots'.

Isn't the Nike-Off unfair? As much as I think ?uest is the man, he has direct hookups with the sneaker companies no? He was even rocking the "?uestlove Knows" T at the Pre-Picnic

I had it a draw....
