Posted on 07/27/2008
Ok, so we've been stretching out our follow up to The Roots Picnic a little while now but we swear this is the last of it.  Here are all the Webisodes of okayplayerTV in one place for your viewing pleasure. Webisodes feature: The Roots, The Cool Kids, Esperanza Spalding, J*DaVey, and plenty of shots of the crowd.  Don't hate on our mic flag!  A very special thanks to ProCreate Pics, Amanda Diva, LiveNation, and of course to everyone who braved the heat to come out and get down.  See you next year!

the whole show didn't really seem that cohesive. i felt like it jumped around a bit. i like deerhoof but i don't think the majority of the crowd could really appreciate it. they were "open" but not loving it.

cool kids are alright, but from an older generation perspective, they dont grab me. maybe on record but not live.

i was disappointed that santogold didn't perform and even more disappointed when i heard that santo and bilal both performed the night before (for a cheaper price and out of the sun!@).

picnics are outdoors, and outdoors in the dead of summer on the east coast = heat and humidity. and that it was. what you gonna do... maybe lower the prices of H2O that day... yeah, that would be a good idea.

when i first heard of this event as a "picnic", i'm imagining bbq being passed all around, along with coolers of beer, listening to the roots get down in a grass area. realistically i know that couldn't happen but the name was a lil deceiving.

overall, it is a dope concept. i think it should be done again and again. but i think it could have been executed more smoothly.

My friend and I rolled up, We missed half of the show..but the portions that we did see, really impressed me. I'd come again..and again. And the price was VERY nice on the pockets

The Picnic was great fun. It was nice to have something like that in Philly. I hate having to travel to NY or anywhere else to experience a cool event like the roots picnic. It's good to see folks come to philly for something cool, instead of the other way around.

Lots of fun! Would definitely do it again. The heat was horrible though - standing around on unshaded blacktop for 10 hours in June is just a bad idea all around. Please try an alternate venue!

there have been very few times in my life where i would stand out in the hellish heat reflecting off the more than murky waters of the delaware river, but this day, when the roots shut down the city with an unforgettable, body-moving, ear thumping festival was not long enough.
