TechTuesdays: Dark Energy Reservoir Portable Power [Product Review]

Here at Okayplayer HQ we are preparing for the annual SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX where we will be hosting a series of four events at four different venues along side our channel partners Okayafrica, Okayfuture, and Large Up (to be announced top of next week--stay tuned!). That means our crew will be heavy in those Austin streets, relying on our devices (phones, cameras, GoPros, etc) to stay connected, capture content and live-broadcast over social media.

In today's connected (and battery-powered) world, the importance of staying charged and "on the grid" can sometimes seem as necessary as staying hydrated (but let's be real though!).  So when our friends at Fighter Interactive offered to send us over the new Dark Energy Reservoir portable power supply, the timing could not have been more perfect.

Dark Energy boasts enough battery power to recharge any smartphone up to 4-6 times. It will also recharge your tablet, GoPro, GPS device and more (with two USB ports, it'll recharge two at a time, even). Lightweight (5.9oz) and slim (0.47") in design, Dark Energy fits in your back pant pocket, in your coat, and most certainly in your bag. The battery power is listed as 8000mAh and while we are still testing it in the field, is said to have a 500+ charge life cycle.

The most attractive aspect of the Dark Energy portable charger, when compared to it's competition, is it's compact and durable design. At a price point of $129, it is on the more expensive side in it's category, but may be worth it to you if packing light is a priority. For us, at events like SXSW and our annual Roots Picnic festival (announcing that next week too!), it will serve our entire team well, and come in quit handy, without adding to our load.

It goes without saying: Do your research! From ours we noticed that some of this brand's early Kickstarter supporters have had customer service issues with receiving the product they invested in, but that was last year and hopefully beta0bugs been sorted by now--catch up with us at an Okayplayer showcase at SXSW and we'll let you know how Dark Energy performs on the ground!
