Jean Grae: The Jeanius Retires? Some four years after a rough version of Jean Grae's Jeanius album produced by 9th Wonder leaked to the internet, an official version has been released today by Blacksmith Music on iTunes. We caught up with Jean yesterday who is quoted as saying "someone please send me a copy of my album, I want to hear it."

So now the type of music that one makes decides the fate of others? get the fuck out of here and get over it. When you dropped your first two albums there were people making music who suck dick compared to The Cool Kids and all these hipster cats. Following your reasoning, then you should have never hustled to become a rapper.
You shouldn't get mad at the people who make the music, hate on the people who put the music out. She's just mad because they are stylin on her. 1

Look Jeanius,
I believe that those that have "IT" should stay in the game and give it all ya got. Those that are wack NEED to retire. Yo ass needs to stay in play. Don't you leave me here in a wasteland of weak rhymes and unstable, corporate marketed sexuality. Your "Love Thirst" joint is crazy. And you plan to leave me with Foxy Brown's whole disc and say "Fare thee well"?? Hell, naw. STAY IN PLAY, JEAN. I'll try and figure a way for your shit to go on air. Give me a minute. PS. That Busta joint kinda good. Sounds like he's growing braids again. 3

Ok. What is Jean's due? She has critical acclaim. What else does she want? A good deal? You gotta work goddamn hard. I'm a fan, but I think artists who complain about "not getting their due" need to redefine their priorities and work methods.

Very sad Jean. You're the sickest female MC in the game and one of the top MCs period. You will be missed. I agree with you and your taking shots at these hipsters (god I hate that term) however, music is forever evolving. De La Soul, Nas, Mos Def, Rakim, the Pharcyde, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Raekwon & Ghostface. That right there should get anyone pumped for Rock the Bells. We'll just show up halfway through the day to see the legends rock it.

The industry don't care. So you must make them care. It anit the 90's were fools are tripping off what you said, and having real debates(NOT MTV) line for line... them days is gone..and all of us who was 15 in 1995 and now 28 in O8 know what I mean.. The whole vibe is gone. So you adapt to the terms...but stay true your core. I am suprised that Jean Grae who is messing around with Blacksmith( Corey..David Gensler's buddy didnt step in and teach someone on how to brand you. It appeared you were in the right direction with the throwback covers of the great albums in hip hop..but then Mrs. Badu came and took your glory...Did she bite your idea? or do great minds just think alike? Until Jean gets her brand straight with others...other than backpackers. then your right..your grind wont be respected outside your small okplayer circle. Very few groups in music get this...OutKast does...Madonna does...Kanye..Pharrell...Snoop..shit Nas...Jay Z....all these folks have been around with exception of Kanye for mad long! Your fanbase is alot older Miss Grae. Your fanbase got kids, homes, and they anit rocking the backpacks and bus passes no more...Trust me. I am not. Although I wish I was still a kid back in the day..but shit..you need modify your marketing and NOT YOUR FLOW.
a patron of culture period. 9

what a fucking baby. She doesn't like bright clothes and cocaine, so she's leaving hiphop? what a nonsensical and weak excuse.

Dear Jean,
I am a mixture of emotions upon hearing the news of your career retirement. It saddens and angers me deeply that you of all emcees should be leaving us so soon. I have enjoyed your body of work and often fantasized about you bathing in the blood soaked orgy of the violent aftermath as a result of the lyrical nihilism of your counterparts. And at times you speak of love and your longing for it. Your frustration with it and the good times to be had when you are in love. We feel for you Jean. We were there when your wrote your heartfelt letter to allhiphop.com. And laughed as you smashed haters and naysayers alike when they doubted your ability to prove that you are pound for pound for pound, note for note, the nicest female emcee in this art form that is still consistently putting out quality hip hop music from the heart and soul. I have a feeling that this a secret ploy to detract the masses that be from some amazing surprise attack ("of the attacking things") that they wont even see coming. I ride for you when you speak of "serenading the moonlight with the speaker" on "MY CREW", and I got your back with your slick tongued wittiness on "Say Something", I knew you was bad news and it wasn't cuz of your tattoos. Come back one mo gain and tell these folks to "Give It Up". That good, that sure, that ill, that girl. Fa sheezy ms Greezy. And who but you could have brought the heat scorching flow on the seminal "Style Wars", no body, Just you. Just the way you are. For better or for worse we love you. And when the game was dry and we needed a drink of that good, you gave us "Love Thirst" and even let ya boy Busta hold it down on the remix. In "Phoenix" you reminded us that, "Nigga Im better known as light, let me shine on you, mind confident, rhyme dominant, lines constant." Damn. If no one has thanked you today. Let me the first. If not one has complimented you on your smile, then say cheese and show me the pearly whites sweety. I love you for all that you are and what you have given to this wretched game of shoots and ladders, 2 faced fornicators, and forked tongued braggarts. I admire your perseverance, dedication, fortitude, and unwavering commitment to do number one. Stay young at heart and passionate about your quest for that new feeling. The flame may not be as bright, but as long as the wackness exists then your spark and glow will come from the friction to do bigger and better thangs. You are the truth Jean. The epitome of a strong black woman that makes men weak at the knees and gives young girls the inspiration and courage they need to stand up against those who choose to hold them back. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. Take as much time as you need, and when you are ready to return, the rest of us may not be ready, but I will be with open heart, mind and arms. Love Always and Forever, Wraithe 12
